The New D&D Season of Champions Is All About Warcraft

In early March 2026, Wizards of the Coast finally presented their D&D Roadmap, listing all of the new books, accessories and organized play events for the remainder of the year. One initiative that caught the attention of many fans was the introduction of new D&D Seasons, which are three- to four-month periods built around a unique theme.

So far, we’ve seen three seasons: the Season of Horror (which ran from April to June with a focus on Ravenloft: The Horrors Within supplement) and the Season of Magic (running now from July to September with a focus on the upcoming Arcana Unleashed supplement).

On the roadmap, however, was also the Season of Champions, which will be running from October to December 2026. At this year’s Gen Con, Wizards of the Coast officially confirmed that the Season of Champions will be focused on the D&D World of Warcraft crossover.

Below, we break out what to expect when Azeroth arrives.

When does the D&D Season of Champions take place?

The Season of Champions technically runs from October through December 2026, but there are a few key dates that fall outside this. The general timeline is as follows:

• Jul. 30th, 2026: Pre-orders for the new World of Warcraft book open at local game stores, D&D Beyond and Amazon.
• Sep. 23rd, 2026: A new World of Warcraft focused campaign will launch from the Dungeon Masters actual play.
• Nov. 3rd, 2026: The book will be available as an early release to individuals who pre-ordered from D&D Beyond or local game stores who are part of the Wizards Play Network early access program.
• Nov. 17th, 2026: The D&D WoW book and accessories will be available to the general public.

What D&D products will be included in the Season of Champions?

The primary products are as follows:

• D&D World of Warcraft Gameplay Expansion: This is a core gameplay book for players and DMs.
• Map pack: This will include both a physical or digital version for use on D&D Beyond Maps VTT. When you purchase the map pack you’ll also receive a digital code for an adventure for level 16 to 20 characters that takes place in Icecrown Citadel and includes a dozen high-level bosses.
• DM screen: This will include new art on the front and tables and reference materials on the back to help run an ongoing WoW campaign using D&D 5.5E.
• Miniatures: Two sets of new miniatures will also be released. Notably, these were developed with Hasbro and not WizKids (which is usually the preferred vendor for tie-in minis).

What D&D events will be taking place during the Season of Champions?

So far, Wizards of the Coast has not yet released an events schedule for the Season of Champions. We do, however, know that the season will be a key part of the recently revived D&D Encounters program. This program offers exclusive game material, accessories and organized play events at local game stores.

It’s likely we’ll see encounters material released on D&D Beyond that tie into the Dungeon Master’s actual play series and which is available to individuals who pre-order the World of Warcraft sourcebook. We’ll update this page with all the details once we know more.

Final Thoughts

With World of Warcraft the focus of the upcoming Season of Champions, there’s a lot riding on its success for both Wizards of the Coast and Blizzard. Whether the season can reach fans from both franchises, however, remains to be seen.
